Company to build spunlace line, acquire additional land in South Carolina

Fibertex Nonwovens will invest nearly $50 million in a new spunlace line at its North American site near Greenville, SC. The new capacity will meet the growing need for locally-made nonwovens in North America. The Danish nonwovens producer has also acquired an 84-acre industrial lot adjacent to its existing site in South Carolina with a view toward additional expansion at the site. The company hopes these efforts, as well as future initiatives will help drive revenue from its U.S. operations to more than $160 million of DKK 1 billion within a few years. Fibertex acquired the site from Turkish nonwovens producer Mogul in early 2019. At the time, the site contained one spunlace line; in 2020, the company added a production line at the site based on advanced needlepunch technology. “Over a period of more than 50 years, nonwovens have evolved into high-tech performance materials used in a wide range of sectors. In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic led to a dramatic surge in demand for PPEs and disinfection products for the healthcare sector, an area where we’re a frontrunner providing innovative products based on spunlacing, advanced needlepunch, nano and other value-added technologies,” says CEO Jørgen Bech Madsen. The latest technology will respond to demand for products with a focus on health and hygiene, more emphasis on local production and added focus on sustainability, which is also to our benefit. “With this new investment, we’ll be able to build an extremely strong position in the important North American market for, among other things, high-performance wipes for sanitizing and disinfection purposes in the healthcare/medical sector, sustainable personal care products, a range of industrial applications as well as in the automotive industry and the construction sector,” Madsen adds. In addition to its U.S. site, Fibertex Nonwovens has sites in the Czech Republic, Turkey, France, Brazil and Denmark. It has a vision to become a world leader in advanced nonwovens and high performance solutions and grow its current sales from $290 million to $400 million by 2026.
